Rachel Anne McAdams
Rachel Anne McAdams is the daughter of
Sandra Kay (Gale), an Ontario nurse, and Lance Frederick McAdams a truck driver
and furniture moving. Her birthplace was in London, Ontario on November 17
1978. Rachel is English, Welsh and Irish-born. Rachel started acting at
thirteen. She was already performing in Shakespearean plays in summer theater
camp. Rachel graduated with honors from York University with a BFA in Theater.
Following her TV debut in Disney's The Famous Jett Jackson in 1998, she starred
on Canadian television's Slings and Arrows 2003. The comedy drama follows the
struggle of Shakespearean theater groups. Rachel was awarded an Gemini Award
for her performance in 2003. The role she played in Mean Girls (2004) as Regina
George instantly landed her in the top tier of Hollywood's list of promising
young actors. Following the film, she was cast opposite Ryan Gosling in The
Notebook (2004). The Notebook was a smash at the box-office, and quickly became
the leading romantic drama for a new generation of movie lovers. McAdams came
into contact with Gosling during filming. They were a couple until the middle
of 2007. McAdams' next film was comedy Wedding Crashers (2006), the thriller
Red Eye (2004), and the Christmas drama The Family Stone ((2005)). McAdams also
explored independent film through Married Life (2007) which was premiered at
the Toronto Film Festival. It also featured Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper, as
well as Patricia Clarkson. Following her roles in The Lucky Ones, a military
drama State of Play, and The Time Traveler's Wife (2009) McAdams was a co-star
with Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie's blockbuster international
Sherlock Holmes. McAdams played the plucky producer of a failed morning show on
TV in Morning Glory (2010), the materialistic fiancee of Owen Wilson in Woody
Allen's Midnight in Paris (2011) and then returned to the romantic drama genre
in the critically acclaimed film The Vow (2012) opposite Channing Tatum.
McAdams is also in the film with Ben Affleck in Terrence Malick's To the Wonder
(2012) and also alongside Noomi Rapace in Brian De Palma's thriller Passion
(2012).In 2005, McAdams received ShoWest's "Supporting Actress of the
Year" Award as well as the "Breakthrough Actress of the Year" at
the Hollywood Film Awards
