Meg Ryan

Meg Ryan, blonde-haired and blue-eyed she was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield Connecticut to Susan (Duggan) an ex- actor and English teacher and Harry Hyra, a maths teacher. Ruthenian as well as Polish, Irish, German and German descent. "Hyra" Hyra, her maternal grandmother's maiden, is Ruthenian. Meg has graduated from Bethel High School, Bethel in May 1979. In the fall of 1979, she relocated to New York, she attended New York University where she majored in journalism. Meg Ryan was her name and she began acting to earn extra money as she finished her studies. In 1981, she had her debut on the big screen with the role of Candice Bergen's daughter in George Cukor's final film Rich and Famous (1981). She was cast in the role of Betsy in the TV soap The World Turns the World Turns (1956) after she was able to audition. From 1982 to 1984, she was part of the ensemble. Meg also had a part in the television series One of the Boys (1982) However, this show was eventually cancelled. Meg moved to Hollywood in 1984 and got an opportunity to be a part of the western television series Wildside (1985). Meg was a small part in Top Gun (1986), which led her to be cast in Steven Spielberg’s Innerspace (1987) where she co-starred with Dennis Quaid. For the remake of D.O.A., she starred again with Quaid. (1988) and the couple married on Saint Valentine's Day in 1991. Meg made an appearance in the 1989 film When Harry Met Sally... (1989), and the restaurant scene became famous. Meg was nominated both for the Golden Globe as well as the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. Also, she was part of the hugely successful Sleepless in Seattle (1993) in which she was nominated for the Golden Globe. In 1994, Meg decided to act contrary to the norm when she acted as the alcoholic wife and mother in When a Man Loves a Woman (1994). Then, she went back to "cute" with both I.Q. (1994) and French Kiss (1996). The year 1994 was the year that Meg won the Harvard Hasty Pudding Award for being "Woman of the Year" and was selected as one of "The 50 most beautiful women in the world in 1994" by People Magazine.
